Sadguru Darga Swami's Guru
Above is the photograph of Swami’s Guru. He hails from Karnataka. Swami was in the physical presence of his guru for only one day or so. The Guru appeared, placed a feet on swami’s heart and kissed on his forehead. This is the formal initiation or diksha from the guru to the disciple. After the initiation Swami along with Ammaya left for Tirumala to get tonsured. When they returned back to the Darga they did not find their Guru.
Swami once narrated that he was very disheartened with the separation from his guru. He spent time like this thinking of his guru as to why he has left him alone. Then he had a vision or conviction from the internal voice asking “where has the guru left to?”. After this at whomever Swami looked seemed like his guru. All faces seemed to be that of his Guru. This experience lasted for some time with swami after which he was convinced that his Guru has not left anywhere but he is present in everyone and everywhere and is to be looked at in that manner.
The important lesson here is that the indweller in every living being is Guru. He is not to be limited to a name and form. This is one of the main principles swami always emphasizes on. The principle that swami learnt directly from his Guru.
Over the years I have realized that swami teaches only what he practiced and realized by experience. Whatever he emphasizes is not a mere knowledge collated from reading books.
I learnt from fellow disciples that Ammaya once remarked that Swami had an opportunity to stay with his guru for only a day. We are fortunate to have more opportunity and access to swami. I feel the underlined message is that we should value this and strive to progress in the spiritual path.
Even to the age when swami is 80, he has a photograph of his guru in his room he reminds his guru every day.
